Emergency Contact Numbers at work --- Update

03-11-2009

 16 :17 EST
Brothers and Sisters,

Last month, a concern was brought to our attention by Local Chairman JJ Spikula, former Director of the Eastern Region. See Link:  http://www.teamsters.ca/en/news/1144/emergency_contact_numbers_at_work

I spoke at length about this with JJ and he was following it up on a local level while I brought it to the Policy committee meeting.  VP of Engineering Gord Pozzobon agreed that there should be a System process in place and asked General Manager John Moreash to look into setting this up and work with me in getting the message out.

Today I recieved the following e-mail from John outlining the process he figured would work. I have agreed that this should cover it and he will be having the supervisors roll it out on the property, over the next two weeks.  John and I will go over it again on March 30th to see if there is anything else that needs to be done, once the information has been sent out. Let me know any feedback you may have before then.

Thanks JJ for all you did on this and also to John and Gord for their quick reaction to finding a solution.

Stay safe, stay strong, stay united,

Bill Brehl

Further to the ES Policy Committee and the concern
raised regarding families of employees being able to contact them in the
field in the event of an emergency at home.

>     The first contact would be their current Supervisor's phone
> numbers, and possibly the Manager.
>
>     As a second contact for employees, would like to propose the
> following.  This would cover when the Supervisor is not available,
> after hours, weekends, or remote areas where phone coverage is
> limited.
>
>     1.  Family member to call Engineering Services Operations Desk
> (ESOD) at 888-678-7272.
>     2.  Advise of Employees name they are trying to reach, report to
> work location and supervisor.
>     3.  ESOD to contact Supervisor through on-call list.
>     4.  If unable to reach Supervisor, ESOD to contact employee
> directly via radio, or through RTC.
>
>     This would allow 24 hour access to a family member to contact an
> employee in the event of an emergency at home.
>
Would appreciate your comments, and if you are in
agreement, we can discuss how best to jointly communicate to the Field.

        Thanks.
