Sister Kim Wilde-Lewis, Local 91, laid the Teamsters Canada wreath at the Memorial in Ottawa observing the Day of Mourning for workers killed or injured at work. Sister Kim lost her husband in an industrial accident, and she is a vocal advocate for workers’ safety.  Brother Brian McDonald, President of Local 91, Brother Roy Graham, Business Agent at Local 91, also participated in the ceremony, as did a contingent from the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference – Maintenance of Way led by Brother Bill Brehl, President.

At this anniversary, speakers talked about how far we had come, yet how much further we still have to go to ensure safety on the job.  Four workers lose their lives every day, over 1,000 each year, and since the first Day of Mourning observance, more than 21,000 workers have lost their lives in industrial accidents.

The Teamsters Union works every day on this issue. Our goal is to put an end to the statistics and make sure workers come home to their families safe and sound at the end of every shift.
